Primary Drive Oil Leak

I have just finished a mostly cosmetic rebuild of a 1960 alternator G12. After a few short runs I noticed oil dripping on the ground from the bottom of the primary chain case. It looks to be coming from the face between the crankcase and the inner primary case, at the point where the crankshaft passes through them both. I believe there is no seal fitted here apart from a paper gasket, but there is an oil spinner (Part No.023163). Is there a right or wrong way to install this spacer with regard to the grooves in its circumference? Any suggestions welcomed!
