I have bought a new gear box sprocket for my 1954 G80s . . . B52 gearbox. Before i dismantle the bike I would be greatful if someone could tell me what size socket/box spanner I'm gonna need to undo the sprocket nut . . . .
And if anyone has any handy tips to make the job easier that would be good too

Thanks Paul

I use a large adjustable. They are often loose despite the locking tab.

Pretty sure it's a 1" Whitworth box/tube spanner that you'll need. A normal socket won't be deep enough to go over the gearbox mainshaft and reach the nut.

I have had Gearbox nut and sprocket come off my 1936 AJS 250 on a run. Could not see any thread to get the nut on. A mate said put it in 1st gear. ( old Burman mod H gearbox. ) Did that and the shaft popped out. Put the bits back on with fingers, then a tighten with an adjustable spanner. Just a few minutes and back on the run again. Never had to do anything else except just put sprocket and nut back on. Not sure if you will need to put B52 in gear.
