holes for shafts!

Post by m knight. »

This relates to the how mutch is too much topic. On my 46 G80 the dynamo shaft pokes through a hole in the primary drive case as dose the main shaft for the gearbox, nither have any seals fitted! The holes have lips around them which helps oil run around the holes & not run out of them. The gearbox had felt seals fitted origonaly which weep grease for a pastime, the engine breather blows out an oily mist at tickover and nither the kickstart or shift leaver have any seals fitted! My bike leaks oil like its designers knew it would & as a result looks like it would have in the early 50s, oily but loved, get out there and stain the drives of all your mates thats what friends are for!

Those oil leaks are intentional. Part of the waterproofing system on many bikes, not all of them British. At least you know that the machine has lubricant!

At least, unlike Jap. bikes, you don't have to lubricate the stands!
