1949 AJS magneto chain deflection

Afternoon all.
I am fitting the magneto drive chain on my 1949 AJS 350 and the manual states that the chain deflection is " J ".
What does J refer to ?
Someone else suggested that the deflection is 1/4 inch, on the drive side of the chain.
Is anyone able to assist ?

1/4" will be fine (on either run of the chain).

Thank you so much.
I've owned Triumph and BSA twins over the last 40 odd years and chain driven mags are new to me.

Just a tip............set the ign timing by loosening the lower (cam gear) sprocket rather than the one on the mag shaft. It's far easier as the lower sprocket is less likely to move when you tighten the nut. If you put a socket (one that's larger than the nut) against the sprocket and give it a sharp tap before final tightening of its nut it'll be less likely to move.
