G5 Information

Morning all, new to the forum here and just trying to get a recently acquired G5 running.

Would someone kindly confirm the diameter and thread form I need to extract the advance retard mechanism? I need to reset it on the taper to get the timing in range of the points plate movement.

It looks like 5/16 BSF to me but I would like confirmation as the threads seem a bit damaged probably by previous extraction attempts

Many thanks in advance, Andy

Hi Andy,

It's 26TPI Cycle. A toolbox retaining bolt should screw straight in.
More info on removing the mechanism here: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/AJS-Matchl ... 91#s228870

If its the thread bolt pt. no. 000347 screws into, its certainly 1/4 26 TPI. That bolt is actually an old STD part used from the prewar era onwards on many parts of a bike, 1 5/8" long. Sizes are not usually stated in post 1951 parts list, they are in pre 52 lists. So if you see a part no. start with 3 zeros, like 000347 Old part no. STD 347 You are most likely to find sizes here.
