I have an alloy engined short stroke Matchless G3, which I think was built up by the previous owner. There have been various problems with the bike which I have gradually cured but now the cylinder head joint is leaking oil. Before I take the head off I wanted to know if it is a common fault, and also should it have a a copper head gasket. It's the first Matchless single I've owned since the sixties and the manual I have doesn't mention an all alloy engine.

Working on the theory you have a late short stroke engine not an earlier one do you have the parts list: http://archives.jampot.dk/book/Spares_l ... G12CSR.pdf on page 10 there is a head gasket in the cylinder head section.
