Prop Stand Spring Locations

Hi

A question is often asked regarding the locations for the side stand spring to permit it to either stay out or retract automatically - as I currently have easy access to the locations on a duplex frame I thought I'd post a photo to illustrate the positions for future enquiries:

Hope this helps

Regards Mick

Edited to add - This is a 1965 frame and the spring holes are identical to my 1961 duplex frame

Thanks Mick,
Very useful. I had to ask about the location about a year ago.
However, my frame seems to be missing the forward holes, although perhaps they are simply covered over with paint.
I am interested to know date of your frame.

thanks
ger

My 16MS has a forward hole for the stay down position but when used the spring stretches across and rests on the bottom of the crankcase.

Being steel, the spring sits there busily chewing its way through the Ali crankcase when in the retracted position - that can't be right can it?

I put a rubber sleeve over the spring.

As Rob says, or make a short plate about 1" long with a stud sized hole one end and a spring hook sized one at the other. Introduce it at the front down tube/ side rail junction under the stud's nut and washer; hook the spring in the lower small hole. Keeps the spring away from the crankcase. Works on my 51 and 53 bikes.

Ah, so it's not just my bike then! I'll have to explore those options.
