I recently came across these photos of my Grandfather and Grandmother (she lived to 104, motorcycling is good for you 👍🏼) and I'm hoping to find out if this bike is still about and or anything about it but don't know where to start. Any help would be appreciated thanks 👍🏼
The Registration is possibly UP4189 or UP4188

Neither number is known to DVLA, so either scrapped or sitting in someone's collection, unregistered ..

The reg. no. was issued in Durham in 1930. That anywhere near where you live? It is a 1930 2.48 c.c. O.H.V. Model R12 ( R is the code letter for 1930 )
All other 1930 OHV models in 1930 had what is known as a " slopper " it inclined forward. They also had the mag. at the rear.
The bike could still exist with another reg. no. the old lost or sold off.

Thanks Rob, yes Durham is about 30 miles up the road from where they lived. I didn't know anything about the bike till the photo's appeared and now thanks to you I now know what model

or had its number sold on and replaced with an age related one. Provided it has an MOT you can do this and two letters and 4 number would be worth at least £1000. If it has there is no way of knowing if it is still around.

The number should perhaps show on another vechile if sold off, so the bike may have been lost, If it still survives it would now have an age related number.
The Durham record office have records archived from 1922 to 1974, So you may discover more history of the bike, previous owners etc.

You are right, if it is no longer on retention. My old AJS model 18 combination JDP284 had its number stripped from it by the second owner after me. DVLA shows its now on a 10 year old Mercedes but it took about 2 years in retention before it was bought.
