I think it is about 3/4" (19mm) section. I'll measure it when I'm in the garage next and let you know. It's too chilly to get off the settee at the moment!

I bought a similar torch some years ago and having a campervan have a spare gas bottle.I went on the link to look at the suggested one and am now getting that firms advertising every time I use my tablet! There is no escape from unwanted rubbish!

The gearbox stand is 20mm, and the engine one is made from 25mm box section. I did take a photo but it's such a long winded palava to upload one on here I didn't! I hope this helps

I bought one of these, it works a treat on my AMC gearbox. He makes engine stands too and that was great. I don't have welding facilities. A nice fella to deal with.

That stand has a feature that I like... The screw at the back, presumably to hold the sprocket still whilst working on the gearbox. I don't believe, however, that it would be sufficient to hold the sprocket whilst undoing, or doing up, the sprocket retaining nut. I thought I'd add that feature to my home made effort before I sent it off for powder coating. I turned up a spacing boss and welded it to an old gearbox sprocket. That's now bolted securely to the rear engine plate. With a short length of chain around both sprockets, the gearbox sprocket is held while the nut can be undone or done up.

That's brilliant. Good thinking.

What a practical piece of engineering.
Good to note that the split link clip is fitted the correct way for when tightening the nut.

Presumably the fixture is clamped to the bench when you torque the sprocket nut to provide the reaction - it's a rather specialised design.

I use a chain wrench which serves the same purpose on or off of the bike. Torqueing on the bike is essential for Ariels with enclosed chain guards where the sprocket must be fitted after the guard.
