about to refit petrol tank to my 1954 g3ls anyone have a diagram of how to wire the heads of the four bolts together thanks

Wire 2 together across the frame as tidy as you need it to be. (Don't put the twisted end too near the fuel tap or you might stab your finger onto it.... been there etc.

the voice of experience, cheers have i anything missing to fix the tank washers etc here is what i have
fat rubber washers x4
thin rubber washers x4
metal washers x4
bolts with hole x4
spacer x4

No, that's all you need. For the wire I like to strip the earth wire from ringmain size electrics cable. I find it easiest to work with.

they are small metal sleeves which go through the rubbers then the bolt goes through

Yes, to prevent the bolts going too far and puncturing the tank.

Always turn back the ends of wire locking to prevent this

I thought that's what they were. I don't have any on my 1938 Silver Streak, would you recommend I fit them?

See page 99/100 . I do not think it tells you not to tighten the bolts tight so the rubbers get compressed. If you do the rubbers will not do their job to absorb vibration. Just nip the bolts up. The wire stops them coming undone. I do not do as the book says about wiring the bolts, or as seen and said by Dave & Mick. If a wire breaks you can loose the bolts and other fittings. I wire each bolt to the frame lug twice, with two lengths of wire. So both wires will have to break. If that does happen, the bolt will still hang on the frame lug. If the wire is twisted between bolts, it may look neat, but may be stressed and break more easily. You loose both bolts and fittings.
