How do these work? With the open closed shutters on them.

Its a very simple choke. With the vents closed its on full choke for cold starting. Open vents when warmed up. Handlebar operated with a cable is far more practical though.

Hi

They're better than nothing but I prefer an air slide in the carb and a lever on the bars.

I do have a manual choke on the handle bars too.

Hi

If you have the full choke system I'd lose the air filter and fit a standard bell mouth.

Those chokes are mainly used on 2 stroke engines that have no lever and of course a choke slide. The air lever control works how the engine needs to be controlled. Fully closed for very cold starting, then gradually opened to fully open as the engine warms up. So take it off and use what should be fitted to the bike, eg Choke slid in carb and operating cable/lever.

You have now to check the main jet, and the needle position. The original settings should have been modified when this device was fitted.

This choke may have been fitted without changing jets and settings, if so it may run better when taken off. I should have mentioned this in an earlier post. So thought I should back up Jean-Noel's comment, so do check your carb settings and jets.
