47 oil tank filter cap seal

Post by boris »

Hi
1947 16M and I'm trying to find the copper seal that sits inside the cap above the felt oil filter. I can see in the parts list SDT583 but that's a cork washer and I need a hollow rolled copper ring.

Can anyone point me at the correct part or is the part I currently have incorrect?

That's odd as it's a perfect fit in the groove in the cap and had it not been crushed it would work perfectly. The club cork seal I got is much larger in diameter doesn't fit the groove in the cap and hangs over the edge. It simply doesn't look like the right part given the groove in the cap in now pointless

it may be worth checking with the club that you have not inadvertently been sent the one or later oil tanks.

Ah. So should the cork gasket fit the groove exactly?

That's how I remember them fitting but don't have on to hand to confirm, if no one else confirms tonight I will look in the depths of the shed tomorrow.

I have taken the cap of off my 1952 18s, the cork is a bit skewed bit in theory should all be in the recess.

Hi.
My cap has always had a rubber O ring with no problems. Another non original part for the old girl that I didn't realise. :o
