N1 Magneto

Post by Yak »

Hi.
Recently I bought a NOS N1 magneto. It came with a new rewound armature and modern condenser. Have ridden with it for some 2000ks and is faultless. Am very happy with it.
Just one query. With the points closed I can pull a fag paper out. It takes a bit of pressure but it pulls out without ripping, so I guess the faces of the points are in good nick.
When checking the timing I can still discern when the points do open and the paper comes out freely when lever is put to full advance. Points gap is 12thou just after the ramp.
As the bike is running so well I am loathe to take points apart, and was wondering are they likely to tighten up? Being new I check the gap regularly and no need for adjustment as yet.
Cheers
Ray.

All sounds very reassuringly normal and healthy to me. You have got yourself a good one.
Points won't need adjusting very often, typically - but checking now and then is good as nothing is Fit and Forget. (They should stay in adjustment for a good few thousands of km.)
