No I think I understand :cry:
In essence, if you mate the plunger to the scroll on the t/s axle and the plunger doesn't sit at 90 deg to the axle the plunger is not compatible with the axle.

Well I put the crank half in the case, installed the plunger and pin and it appeared to spin ok but I am a bit concerned as the axel is definitely one start, and the plunger is two start.
Everyday’s a learning curve.

You don't need to put the axle ass'y into the c/case to check for 90 deg mating, just hold the axle and plunger together AS IF it is ...
(I've never had to do that check but that's what the instructions said in my earlier post).
