if I can ever get it running properly...

Post by tankslapper »

so the new battery helped enormously, and with new 99 octane installed it started first kick..

.....I knew the petrol tank was a bit rusted under the reserve fuel tap but I hadn't appreciated how rusted....

It ran ok for a short while but now only runs with the choke half open....(some rusty bits in the carb?)

In the meantime I sourced an old tank which is now festering in the garage full of white vinegar with which I'm periodically filtering out all the old oxide and once clean enough and with a fuel filter fitted I hope this will help.

I'll have to attempt to disassemble the carb / float bowl to clean it up although it looks like it's not been apart for a good many years.

I'll not get to the Salisbury rally this year unless I go on the Bandit on which I've never had the tank off :?

Any suggestions or helpful suggestions much appreciated, thank you

Sounds like you've diagnosed the problem, and I agree, it's got to be fuel . Mebbe just take a second to blow air through the tank cap breather before you strip the carb. But I expect that's what's next.
What carb type, is there a banjo filter?
