Identifying My Dads Bikes

Post by nrhoward62 »

Good afternoon All

Im a temporary visitor to your forum trying to establish if my Dads old bikes are indeed AJs, if any body could give me a steer it would be much appreciated . The bikes are labelled Bike 1 & Bike 2 for ease of reference, I appreciate locating them may be a tad optimistic but to be able to maybe get similar would be fantastic. Appreciate any help

Welcome to the forums, Nick.

I'm no expert on identifying bikes but these may make it a bit clearer/easier for someone who can.......

The last one VN579 looks like an AJS350 M6 big port

The top one looks like a Norton model 18 500 with a dual seat ( would have had a sprung saddle on it originally ) yet the tank looks Panther or even Triumph - and the primary case has a red hunter look to it it' there's my 2 penne th on it. The seat looks 1950s the bars 1960s and the bike just post war..

The front guard looks wrong - may have had a prang - flat top - though prewar Raleigh's had a similar ish profile but the pic is so blurry and it's a bitza so tricky to ID

The top pic looks like an Ariel engine ( probably Hunter ) and tank looks like Panther.

Many Thanks having just looked at the Aerial Hunter in a decent photograph it defiantly appears to be that engine as opposed to the Hunter (but then what do I know!!) but I am starting to educate myself. Thank you again

Hi Nick, if you are still watching! I and mike were referring to the other bike resembling Arial and Panther. Good luck with your search.
