This is what my 46 G80L pinstripe looks like , thin blue line on Silver with a silver transfer. Just like the template and period images

Thank you, that is very interesting. I note, that on the advertising picture, the ‘flying M’ appears to be a metal, screw on type ( not a transfer ). This also seems to be one of the myriad of variations I have observed. My 1947 has a screw on type M as opposed to the transfer type as in the G80 advert.
They had some pretty good advertising in those days!

P.S. I’ve just scrolled down the advert and the G3L is also show ( sorry, didn’t see it first time ). Thats very helpful. Do I detect a thin blue stripe there too ?

Correct, found it page 37. I have the spares book and certainly that’s shown. As I say, that advertisement you gave the link to, is very useful in confirming trim and other specifications that pictures can clarify.

Just that the photo of the bike is showing the side of the tank.
Whereas Spriddler's pic has a small cutout front centre of the tank so would surely be a view from the top of the tank.

Ah, yes I now see your point. The cutout seems to infer that the view is plan. I think this must be an error? Is it just there to show the front of the tank? Bit superfluous if it is. The template does seem to fit correctly when enlarged to true size and offered up to the tank on my ‘47. It will suffice as a good guide in any case with references being made to contemporary photographs.

P.S. Having taken a second look I think I see the rationale for its inclusion. The measurement, for the curve extremity forward, can be determined by reference to the tank cutaway by dropping a line down from it at the given measurement.

The fuel tanks have a relief that allows for the wiring loom , i think that's what is shown in the lining drawing . most certainly a side view
