Good afternoon all,
I’m applying for an authentication certificate from the club and am unsure as to the gearbox number.
I’m trying to ensure John gets the correct information and I’ve sent him what I can find. The only gearbox ID I can find is G1 D 47. I’m not sure this is the serial number but just identifying the type and year of motorcycle. Anyone able to pinpoint where I’m supposed to be looking? I thought in the area circled in photo? Absolutely nothing, Nada, anywhere. Wire brushed area, not a scratch!
A photo of what, if anything, I’m looking for would really help!
Additional note….1947 G3L motorcycle.
Regards,
Steve

Re: Gearbox serial number
Yes that's the serial number meaning a 350 and made in April 1947.

Re: Gearbox serial number
Hi Dave,
So, right gearbox for my ‘47 G3L. So, no other ‘singular’ identity numbers then? Hopefully John will accept this for the certification.
I just wondered, as I have seen, albeit later gearboxes, additional numbers where I have circled in yellow.
Thanks for your reply.
Steve G3L1946 but owner of a 1947!

Re: Gearbox serial number
I've just looked at some CP boxes on ebay and they're the same. Only the army CPBL box on ebay has additional serial numbers. Best ask John Tinley but if there aren't any other numbers on the shell what else can you do?
Dave.
