Rob Swift centre stand

Post by ajsm18 »

Hello,
I'm sorry if this has been covered before but I can't find how to fit the new centre stand. I have the stand now just need to fit it but I'm concerned that I'll get the old one off but won't be able to fit the new! Are there any instructions available?

Me and a friend put one on his bike last week,
We did it this way...
Four jubilee clips around the spring coil.
One end of the spring in a vice.
With a tube over the other end of the spring wind about a turn into the spring.
Tighten the jubilee clips.
The spring will relax some but the trick is to get it held so that you can hook the end of the spring into the engine plate when offered up with the stand and the spacers. May take a couple of tries to get it wound up just right and the jubilee clips orientated so that you can undo them.
When fitted undo the clips fully and slip off of the spring.

Couple of photos of a standard centre stand being fitted to my bike, same principle...

Brilliant! Thanks for the suggestion. I suppose I was being a bit dim in thinking I needed to keep everything together, especially the spring, to take the old one off! I often surprise myself with how thick I can be :)

A rigid would have a rear stand. No way of fitting a centre stand. The club has new old stock rear stands if yours is missing. 017107 REAR STAND FOR RIGID MODELS -----38-G3-F44 NEW OLD STOCK

I've fitted a couple of Rob's centre stands and they are no more difficult (or easy) than fitting a factory stand.

I've done 3 of them; the injuries are healing nicely... Unfortunately I didn't know the trick at the time, but it's still doable.

If you search the forum there have been several different approaches to fitting the centre stand spring.

Thanks for all the kind replies. Hopefully, I have enough info to tackle the job myself now.
