Rear lamp question

Post by G3L1946 »

Good afternoon all,

I notice in my 1947 G3L manual that a rear brake lamp was an option ( shown in the wring diagram page 77 ). My question is, what type of lamp would have been fitted for this option? Would it have been a Lucas 564 type or something completely different? My ‘47 has a 564 type but not sure this would be correct.
I cant seem to find a reference in any spares manuals of the time.

Regards

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have the WT-203 in my spares box. However, the bike has the correct stop lamp switch etc. which obviously cannot be set up with the WT-203.
Unless I can find a specific part number it’s really difficult to work out which lamp was originally fitted. The 564 type, I think, was not around in 1947.

I took a look on the link you kindly supplied. The lamp does, in the additional details, refer to brake light but not in the main title.
I will investigate!

Thanks,

Steve

According to AMOC spares, they are showing the MT211 which they have in stock. So, unless I hear different, I’ll take that as being correct.

Thanks all,

Lucas MT211 look much closer to original , I have a feeling its a bit larger diameter and what i fitted to my 1946 G80L
the WT203 was the same size as a old airfiX paint pot from memory

Hi,
Thanks for input. I’ve ordered one from the club shop after looking at a few ( cheaper but questionable ) options. The club one looks just about right ( as it should do ) so, hopefully, it will be fine.

G3L1946 Just out of interest has your mt-203 got any markings on it? Numbers/makers marks

I’ve modified a couple of single contact rear lamps to accept a dual contact LED “bulb” and then soldered the cables directly to the bulb. A blob of silicon rubber then serves as an an insulator to prevent the contacts shorting on the lamp body.

Ah yes, one of the lesser calibrated referentials, we're all familiar with "about the size of Wales"

Hi, Just found your question! Yes, there is some markings on it ( the lens ) but, for the life in me, I can’t make out what it says! I even got the torch and magnifying glass on it!
It’s all fitted, up and runnning, and looks the part. I have fitted a twin contact LED which works perfectly. See photo.
