G80 crankcases

I'm trying to separate the crankcases on my 56 G80 but they don't want to shift and I'm a little fearful of getting too brutal with them I've removed all the studs and the oil pump gubbins . As I recall I didn't have a problem last time I did it about 25 yrs ago but my memory's not so good now. Any suggestions (about the crankcases not the memory, that's beyond repair)
