engine oil in 18s

I've had too good a meal/too much wine to be bothered to search the forums, but further to the above, is the oil additive 'ACTIV8' of any proved value? My friendly bike repairman swears by it and uses it in his Goldies - but he also thinks catalytic widgets dropped in the fuel tank prevent exhaust valve recession, so I'm understandably dudious.

There is much debate on whether to use the original oil, see your handbook, or multigrade. If you are at all unsure use the reccomended grade.

I can never understand why people ask how much oil to put in, fill it to the level mark on the tank and check it, after running the engine until the oil returns.
