No, the nuts unscrew themselves off the end of the thread - the locking into the spring end with the dimples does not seem to be effective. And these are brand new from Russell Motors.

the easiest way to cure this is by fitting a second lock nut
A thin 1/4 Bsf nut is needed provided you have enough spare thread.

It sounds to me that the end(s) of the spring have been ground and 'feathered' down to the coil below. When you screw the nuts up, can you feel the projection on the nut clicking over the end of the spring?.
