Chronometric Rune
The chronometric speedo I purchased for my '54 18S has arrived, and after bead blasting the stamped diagram on the case is more clearly visible. I've seen these on many Smiths chronometric speedos:

Does anyone know what the purpose is, and what the position of the two dots indicates?
Cheers,
Dave

This is a guess rather than than statement of fact it maybe a form of date stamp that shows month and year of manufacture but without any scale shown so that only Smiths and those in the know would be able to interpret it.

Doesn't answer your query, but may be of interest.

Looking at Dave´s picture, there is one mark exceeding the outer circle, to my opinion marking the '12'.
The first spot, positioned in the outer circle, marks the '3' then(counting clockwise). The inner spot is marking the '10'.
Couldn´t that be a production date of October 1953? And wouldn´t that correspond with 1954 as the year of production (which started in late 1953)?
