The one at the rear, going in at an angle is the guide bolt and pin, the plug referred to is in the front face of the timing chest. The bolt or screw, 042046 that holds the plug 042044 in place is at right angles to the pump shaft. Remove the bolt/screw, if the plug doesn't protrude a little, poke a suitable piece of rod down the screw hole and lever the plug foward. When the plug is removed you can check whether the pump is both turning and reciprocating. Check the end of the guide pin as well.

I have sent a photo to the photo section, I take that this is the hole and plug? The plug is not protruding at all it is sunk in a little bit .I just want to make sure this is it before I start trying to lever it out from the screw hole. Sorry to be a pain. I know it may take a day or two for the photo to appear.

Went for it and got the plug out , I guess the only way to look down is with a piece of mirror and a torch which I have done but all I can see is a smaller hole that the plug goes up to. What should I see?
