Correct speedo for a 1961 G12 CSR?

Post by CAB »

Hello all
I've just joined the club and this is my first post on here.
Can anyone confirm what type of speedo should be fitted to a 1961 G12 CSR?
Thanks in advance.

Any 120mph chronometric you can get your hands on! Ebay prices are insane!

Chris,

According to Smiths Equipment Spec for 1961 - A G12 CSR should have model SC.3312/00. These numbers will be on the face of the speedo.

But don't take my word for it check it out in the archives:-

Go to the "Technical" pages, and then "Speedo".

As Wilko says, it will cost you a small fortune off ebay, I know I had to do it myself. Then had it checked over by David Woods.

Thanks Gents

The bike currently has an 80 mph speedo fitted. My dad thinks these are pretty rare; at least it was hard to get hold of one when he restored his 350.

Just buy a 120mph face for it! You can fiddle with it by adding or subtracting the tiny weights off the balance wheel assembly. The weights are called regulating washers.Google a picture of the workings and save yourself hundreds!

Thanks gents.

I'll probably stick with what I have for now and then get the face changed and the speedo recalibrated in the winter.

Correct speedo for 61, G12(in headlamp) would be Smiths SC3312. (120mph) I know, I was lucky enough to find one on E-Bay recently for my own, $130.00 CHEAP for one of these. Turns out the seller had another one also, so ALWAYS check e-Bay, they DO pop up now & again. I found my headlamp there as well for $75.00 & ironically in England!

The correct headlamp, Brian? The USA version CSR headlamp had different electrics from the home market. USA version speedometer was on a bracket attached to the handlebar lug & headlamp was not pierced for one. Cheers, Don. Edited by - Don Madden on 29 Jul 2009 4:04:54 PM

Thanks everyone. I'm going to have the 80 MPH speedo rebuilt with the correct face.
