Hi all, Thanks for the info on advance and retard.
I have found a fully restored Model 20 tank in amazing condition, can anyone tell me if it will fit on a 1956 18S.
I don't even know what a Model 20 is.

The part numbers are the same for a 56 18s tank and a 56 model 20 tank. So it should fit, as long as nothing has been modified (bodged) on the tank or your frame over the last 50 years. Check that the mounting lugs on the frame have not been cut off or modified, and the mounting threads in the tank are useable.
The Model 20 was a 500cc twin. A lot of the cycle parts and running gear are interchangeable between the models. AMC were very keen on standard parts, so they could mass-produce motorbikes after the war.

The twin tanks have no cutaway underneath for rocker clearance so make sure it's for a single next one you look at. Mind you, you can fit a singel one to a twin!
