wow - red exhaust pipe!
finally got my model 8 running again, trouble is - a funny flat exhaust note and noticed that the exhaust started to glow when i open throttle.
i have done some searching on here and it seems that must be far to retarted.
is there anything else i should be looking for?, also, the manual says that overheating could be caused by a faulty auto adv/retard unit, but how do i check?

Was the bike being ridden, or sat stationary for a period of time with the engine running?

th bike was on the stand, it was only running for about 3-4 mins,
i assume that the exahust valve must be opening before all the fuel is burnt and some combsution must be happening in the exhaust pipe

re-set timing - it was way out - around 15 degrees i reckon.
1st kick - purrs like a kitten - a very satisfying feeling after 12 months of on/off work.

I know its an old thread but will a finned ally diffuser on the front pipe against the head stop the pipe from going blue???
Thanks paul
