A few points, first thing the 56 crank pictured is a 600 not a 650.
Second, to be put back in service it would cost an estimated $400 (minimum)to repair the damaged journals so if I bust it seeking an answer, I won't spill too many tears.
Last, the plug is clearly an insert of some kind and if all the factory needed was centers, they would not have gone to the trouble and expense to machine and install the plugs unless it served some larger purpose.

How can we tell the difference between a 650 crank and a 600 crank and then is their a difference again in the 500 crank. I thought it was just the throw.

Alan, I think you will find that some 600 cranks have a bolt welded to their big end regrinding centres.

AFAIK Alan the 500 and 600 are the same bar the balance factor, the 650 has the longer stroke. So of the three the 650 is the odd man out in visual terms (forgetting about alternators and and all that stuff). Obviously there weren't any 650 cranks back in '56!
