Burners, Message above yours refers to 1947 G3L bike, which was not a G3. By the way if the archives link was incorrect try:
www.archives.jampot.dk
its archives not archive
Sounds like wrong parts, join the prewar e group and ask an owner for the size of spindle.

according to his profile he has a 1948 G3, by which I assume he means a G3L

If he has a G3 then its not 1948 is it?

It is unfair to come on here and confuse the already confuddled

Ted, your set-up is different is it not?

Ken

Recon you is correct, my set up is somewhat different, not the usual bearing set up etc, trawling the parts lists in christians archives the bearing set up could possibly be 1950??? perhaps, maybe.
geezus this is all very complicated. (dare I say I should have stuck with the T*"*MPHS, *S*'s, & N***ons, can do them blighters with my eyes closed), still nothing ventured nothing gained. by hook or by crook I will get this sorted even if I have to turn up my own spacers and spindle to fit.

If youse all can wait till the weekend I will take the wheel out of my WDG3L and post a photo of the bits.

I will also try and post a sketch of the earlier G3 set up with the QD hub.

But I don't think it will help you Ted, sorry.
i think yours is the later type with which I am not over familiar.Edited by - itma on 13 Jan 2011 9:18:58 PMEdited by - itma on 13 Jan 2011 9:19:26 PM

That picture is quite good but i think it needs to be disassembled in the right order to show how there is a spacer over the spacer on the brakeside and that some of them are shouldered to engage the brake plate. Also the speedo drive spacer setup isn't quite clear. Eventually i will have to replace my bald rear tyre and will take some clear shots for future reference.

I don't want any arguments! This is what an original rear wheel bearing setup looks like! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Rear-Axle-Bearin ... 4154db742a

No arguments Wilko, but I do hope you are feeling hungry, coz you are going to have to eat your words, For your first course may I recommend Christians Archives, 1950 Matchless spares list page 50 clearly shows this bearing set up, pN 014706 & 014868 NO ARGUMENTS.Edited by - bunners on 14 Jan 2011 2:35:10 PM

Ah, you noticed that, what looks like a mashed up spacer is... a mashed up spacer, that's how it came out and I'm trying to find out what it should look like
