I have just solved a very poor tickover and sooty plugs, it turned out the main jet had become loose !! I have never ever had this before, but thats the fascination of these old bikes, keeps you on your toes.

I once had the main jet on my 36 AJS fall out.
I was wondering why the old thing was running so badly, But she soon got going normal again having screwed her jet back in again. I did in fact finish the run I was on, but
it only ran like a 4 stroke at certain revs, with the main jet sitting in the bottom of the carb.

Hmmm, i wonder if thats why i cant get my 16MS to tick over consistently, and why she's running rich? Main jet falling out? Who'd a thought it?
