yes, as long as you use the 1961 pushrod tubes, and you can put up with someone coming up to you and saying thats a later head you've got on that..........

And as I only live at the bottom of the road Dave, you can be sure it'll be me.

If you have a good look at bikes, a lot have either later or earlier barrles fitted.
I don't really know the date barrells changed but look at the flange at the bottom. Up to about??? 1955 the flange was square profile later it was beveled. Next tiem you see a few bikes, see how many later models have earlier sq. profile flange and vice versa. I guess these barrells were interchangable with the smae length PR tubes.

i think that the 53 bottom half will have the oil valve in it to provide oil via holes in the barrell to lub the piston, a 61 barrell would not have the holes in the barrell and therefore once started would p@@S out oil on startup. - Dont ask me why i know !!! simply fix just plug the hole in the cases i think with the same screw that fits the end plate of the oil pump on..

the top fins on the barrel of the later engine are also ;arger than his 53, you only notice it when you fit an early barrel to a 61 engine [now ask how I know]
makes no differnce as Rob says;
oil feed is 3BA

It would help if I didn't press the wrong button wouldn't it; I meant to say of varying ages...
