Matchless indentification please?

Post by lokar56 »

Hello,

Iam newbie here, and I need help about my matchless.

I need to know what model it is, and year of production, I think it is 1941. Frame number is 52XXX, Engine 41 G3R 22XXX E277X.

I need to know what is original and what is not, what is missing....

Where can I find pictures of that kind of bike?

Where is the best to buy parts, I am from Slovenia.

I thank you for your help in advance!

best regards!

here are the pictures of my bike:

You should post your enquiry on this site:

which specialises in your model of bike, although there is some expertise here.Edited by - SPRIDDLER on 18 Jul 2011 10:23:24 PM

You have an interesting bike there with some well made aluminium primary cases Must be some history behind it. I wonder if the cases have provision for a dynamo?

Your bike is a quite rare G3R
Please send me the complete frame and engine number, from which I could tell you what WD contract the bike is from. You will then know what parts list applies to your bike.
Some bikes may be restamped if they were captured by German , Italian forces etc. but the original numbers may still be where they should be found. Also some bikes were refubished in the 1950's, and sold off to the public. These bikes had rebuild details in the form of a plate rivited inside the tool box. This can often be miss leading though. A tool box may had been brought from an auto jumble and put on a bike. Please send me the bikes complete numbers to. prewar@jampot.com

Hi Nejc,

Very few wartime bikes survive in their original state.

During the war bikes were repaired, it did not matter what parts were used as long as they were made good to use.

Your bike was part of Contract number C1050

Go to www.archives.jampot.dk from the home page click on books, then spares lists,

then the G3L book for Contract 1050

For some reason some of these G3L's were stamped G3R.

Your bike has an extra number E 2770, this seems to suggest your bike was captured during the war.

I was probably captured by Italian forces. The extra number added by them.

Quite a few G3R bikes survive, also quite a few bikes are found in Italy with the alloy chain cases bikes survive.

It is very likely your bike was repaired during the war by the Italians and the alloy case was fitted then.

Most restorers tend not to restore the bike as it was originaly.

As this destroys the bikes history.

Your bike has quite a history.

Contract 1050 was mainly supplied to the British army, but a few went to the RAF.

It would be a shame to destroy your bikes long war time history.

So why not restore it finished its war time service.

When the bike was captured, it could be true, it was used by Italian Police.

Please join our e group. Members of the group will remeber far more than me about your bike.

About the extra number, about the alloy chain case etc. also about bikes stamped G3R.
