I miss them sometimes.

Forgive my ignorance but how do you seal the pipe to the head?

The original exhaust down-pipe from AMC had a closed end with smallish holes/slots around the edges of the sealed part - looks a bit like a pepperpot and also sounds fairly quiet in use. I have the original pepperpot on my G5 and it is quite a bit quieter than my Model 8, which has a modern downpipe which is just an open tube. The silencer fitted to my 8 does have some rudimentarty baffling in it but it's still loud and rather lovely...

The down-pipe is a push fit in the exhaust port. I usually smear soem high-temperature (black) silicone sealant on it when fitting it and have never had any problems with pops, bangs or flames.

If it's a loose fit you will need to flare the end using a wooden "carrot-shaped" object and a mallet.

Perfect! Thanks Big Al.
I will get on it this week

Mine doesn't have a pepperpot, just some slots in the pipe. I might make a pepperpot in the workshop to try and keep the neighbors happy!Edited by - Niceride on 14 Nov 2011 8:16:17 PM

Also - should I have some kind of air filter? Right now it just has an open bell going into the aitbox

That's all mine has. When the bellmouth decides to unscrew itself, the side cover collects it do you don't lose it. What an inspired design.
