Cases and Timing side bushings

Post by cf160 »

I have a number of cases with perhaps mixed up combinations of
cases from different years. Two at least are '46 and '47 Mod.18's
Others are 50 and 53 G80 cases and or mixed drive and timing side
cases. I have a few that go together well and I like to think they
may have been together on a motorcycle at one time.
One Problem is that the timing side bush on the case that is mated
with a '47 Mod. 18 has an I.D. of 27.9 mm while all the timing side
cranks I have are only 22 mm in diameter.
I undestand, of course that AMC in its wisdom changed the timing side
and probably drive side crank sizes from year to year as they changed the pistons ,I have recently determined.
I just wonder if there are members or friends who know the details of the different years and different sizes of the years just post war up to 1954 or so.
Particularly the timing side crank size for the 1946, '47 ,48 ,
'49 , '50,'51,'52,and '53 years . Is it the '47 that had the 28 mm timing side bushing or was it some other year?
I suppose it doesn't really matter , but there may be someone who knows and might warn me about other differences which are not so obvious to the eye when looking at these cases and half cases.

Teusand Dankes Ludwig:
Thanks so much mein Liber Herr. That really does help me a lot. I am getting the idea of how to proceed now and also that I have a very mixed group of cases here. Can I ask which Bacon Book you got this from ? Or is it "Restoration" by Roy Bacon?
