Time to pull the outer cover off, make sure there is a little endplay on layshaft and mainshaft or they will bind.I had to make a gasket for the inner case a little thicker than normal to attain end play on the last rebuild.

Thank you for your advice.
I will cut new gaskets for both the
inner and outer compartments and
allow some endplay for both the shafts
