I AM IN THE PROCESS OF RESTORING G9 BUT I HAVE NOT GOT THE CORRECT DYNAMO FOR THE BIKE. i HAVE A DYNAMO THAT WOULD FIT THE TWIN BUT IT HAS THE RUNS THE WRONG WAY FOR THE BIKE.

SOMEONE TOLD ME TO SWAP THE COIL WIRES OVER.. WHICH I HAVE DONE AND KNOW IT APPEARS TO RUN THE CORRECT WAY FOR THE BIKE.

IS THIS OK TO DO THIS OR WILL IT DO DAMAG[:I]E TO THE DYNAMO..

Andrew, by 'running the wrong way' do you mean the polarity of the dynamo is reversed. If this is the case there is a paragraph on Page 135 of the manual (obtainable from the Club) on how to reverse the polarity under 'Converting to Positive-earth System'

Strictly speaking, the armature is (apparently) wound to suit the direction of rotation - the coils slightly lead (or trail) the commutator segments for whatever magnetic/electrical reason.

Spinning the plot the other way supposedly reduces the efficiency, but shouldn't cause any other problems (?).

Local rewinder gave me full chapter and verse some years back, but the electrons seem to have drained out of my memory bank... Anyone ?

Rohan.
