Rigid frame rear chain guard bracket?
Can anyone please tell me the function of the curved piece of steel welded onto the inside at the rear of the chain guard , just forward of the rear pump holder. Is it there just as part of the tyre inflater holding mechanism? Looking at photographs I can see no other function for it. This piece of steel has broken off on both my 1949 and 1950 model 18's. I was hoping that someone could give me the length dimensions in order for me to make up and re weld replacements before I get the chain guards powder coated. Thank you. David.

I think it was simply to stop the pump falling into the wheel.. most seem to be missing.

Re: Rigid frame rear chain guard bracket?
Thanks Clive. As that's its only function I will fit a pump and make up the missing bit to suit using the pump to get the dimension for its length. I expect that most are missing due to the vibration causing them to fracture just above the weld, as both of mine have.
