1958 Model 30 Pistons

Post by Ironhead »

The pistons on the engine i have just stripped down say plus 30thou. and I need new rings, But JSL only stock plus 20, 40, 60 rings. Are they the wrong pistons? the numbers are AM413 and 4330, opposite side 13268. My other question which will be one of many over the next few months is, can you remove the ball and spring from the relief valve at the end of the oil filter on the big nut I have all the books and cannot find the answer.
Thanks Alex

as long as they are in a +30 bore they are the right pistons.
Its an over size no longer availiable thats all.
get +40 rings and file the ends, a bit off each end, keep them square.

Alex, before you order check that the rings are compatible with the earlier/original pistons, I have a friend who has done exactly as Ken recommends on an XS650 as the supplied rings had too larger gap causing it to smoke.

Contact JSL & tell them exactly what you need. Be sure you tell them it is the original type rings. Cheers, Don.
